History:

03/40 First used as a Satellite Landing Ground used by Wellingtons from
Honington. 09/40 to 05/42, 311 (Czech) Sqn with Wellingtons from Honington, moved to Aldergrove. The Czech Training Flight (01/01/42, renamed 1429 Flight) remained here until moving to Woolfox Lodge 07/42. 11/42 to 08/42, 115 Sqn from Mildenhall with Wellingtons then Lancasters. 1678 Conversion Unit with Lancasters based here, moved to Mildenhall.  10/43 to
11/45, 368th, 369th and 370th Fighter Squadrons of the 359th Fighter Group
with P-47 Thunderbolts on ground attack missions. 03/44, re-equipped with
P-51 Mustangs on bomber escort missions. Flew 346 missions from East Wretham. 11/45 Transferred
to 12 Group Fighter Command, 05/46 transferred to Bomber Command. 07/46
Technical Training Command then became a Polish resettlement camp. |
