Airfield Today:
Site is now owned by Welsh Assembly Government who are currently seeking tenders for an operator to run the site as a commercial airfield for the benefit of the local community. Site is available for a 125 year lease to operator with adequate skills, experience and financial strength. Peter Watts, 2007

History:
08/41 to , No. 6 Air Observer Navigation School with Avro Ansons.
10/41 to 01/42, 74 Sqn Spitfires on convoy patrols. 02/42 to 03/42, 131 Sqn Spitfires from Atcham. 05/42 to 08/42, 232 Sqn.
03/43 to 07/43, 2025th Gunnery Flight (P), USAAF, with Lysanders and Masters towing targets for Atcham based P-47 Thunderbolts, moved to Warton.
08/42 to 09/42, P-38 Lightnings from the 14th FG at Atcham detached here.
Airfield now used as an Armament Practice Camp and used by many RAF and USAAF Squadrons until the end of the war.
Post-war the airfield was used for the development of pilotless target aircraft and guided missiles.
