5/41 to 9/42, 76 Sqn with Halifaxes from Linton-on-Ouse. 10/42 to 5/43, 420 Sqn RCAF with Wellingtons from Skipton-on-Swale. Moved to North Africa. 11/42 to 6/45, 419 Sqn RCAF with Wellingtons, Halifaxes then Lancasters. 6/43 to 6/45, 428 Sqn RCAF with Wellingtons, Halifaxes then Lancasters. The last raid from Middleton was 25/4/45, 279 bombers had been lost from this airfield. 7/45 to 5/47, 13 OTU with Mosquitoes from Harwell. /47 to /56, 608 Sqn RAuxAF and No. 4 Flying Training School here. Used by Meteor Sqns until 1950, airfield rebuilt an drunways extended at various times in the 1950s. /63 to /64, 226 OCU here with Lightnings. /65, RAF station closed and the airfield reopened 11/66 as civil airport. |
