RAF Odiham airfield
In this photo the tower had not long had the CR/DF screen fitted, replacing the R/DF system. The binoculars on the tripod had the German eagle and swastika on them having been stolen (captured?!) from a Luftwaffe airfield 1951 (© Geoff Warwick)

In 1951 Field Marshal Montgomery was stationed with the BOAR in Germany. He lived near Alton, to the south of RAF Odiham, and had at his disposal a highly polished Dakota and flew home most weekends. He was always met by his Sergeant Batman who drove an ancient Rolls Royce. The
photo of the Dak was taken from the roof of the Control Tower.
