History:
5/44 to 10/44, Short Stirlings of 1657 OCU based here.
1/45 to 3/46, 196 and 299 Sqn Stirlings of Transport Command flying supplies to SOE in Europe and training for airborne drops. 24/3/45, towed Horsa gliders as part of the Rhine Crossing operation. Postwar flew passengers and mail overseas.
1/45 to 4/45, 1677 Target Towing Flight with Martinets.
5/46 to 2/50, Shepherds Grove transferred to Central Signals Establishment becoming a satellite to Watton, Ansons and Lancasters stored here until the airfield was closed.
9/51 to , 116th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, ANG, 81st Fighter Interceptor Wing, F-86 Sabres moved here from the USA, later joined by the 92nd FIS. 78th FIS. ..
