6/43 to 12/45, 337th, 338th, 339th and 413th Bombardment Squadrons of the 96th BG (Heavy) equipped with the B-17 Flying Fortress moved here from Andrews Field. Flew 321 missions with the loss of 189 aircraft in action along with another 50 lost in accidents. Lead group on many missions including the Schweinfurt raid 14/10/43. |
