08/43 to 08/45, 30th Air Depot Group and 91st Air Depot Group, 2nd Tactical Air Depot, 8th USAAF, transferred to 9th USAAF 10/43.
08/02/44 to 30/09/44, 494th, 495th, 496th and 497th Bomb Squadrons of the 344th Bomb Group with B-26 Marauders. First mission flown 29/02/44, the 344th flew over 100 missions from Stanstead losing 26 Marauders in action. 344th BG led the 9th USAAF on D-Day. Moved to airfield A-59, Cormeilles-en-Vexin in France.
11/45 to 10/47, RAF No. 263 Maintenance Unit, moved to Hitcham.
Post-war used as an American forces transit centre and by German POWs awaiting repatriation.
14/12/46, Airfield opened for civilian flying, opening as London's third airport in 1990.
11/52 to /58, Airfield also used by the USAF who built a new 10,000ft runway 1953-56.
