03/44 to 08/45, 832nd, 833rd, 834th and 835th Bombardment Squadrons of
the 486th Bombardment Group (Heavy) with B-24 Liberators, replaced 08/44
with B-17 Flying Fortress bombers.The 486th BG flew 191 combat missions (46 with B-24s) with losses of 23 aircraft shot down in action and another 29 so severely damaged they were written off or sent to repair depots. Postwar the hangars were used for storage. |
