5/43 to 12/45, 349th, 350th, 351st and 418th Bombardment Squadrons of
the 100th Bombardment Group (Heavy), 'The Bloody Hundredth' moved here
from Podington, flying 306 B-17 Flying
Fortress combat missions. Known as the 'Bloody Hundredth' due to very
high combat losses, this unit lost no more than was average for their
length of service. 27/6/46 returned
to the RAF and on care and maintenance until closure. |
