here en-route to North Africa. Then used by 2nd Bomb Wing for training.
11/43 to
05/45, 700th, 701st, 702nd and 703rd Bomb Squadrons of the 445th Bombardment
Group with
B-24 Liberators, first
mission was to Keil 13/12/43, final mission 25/04/45. 445th BG flew 282
combat missions, losing 108 aircraft in combat along with another 25 lost.
28 B-24s were lost out of 37 on the 27/09/1944, the Eighth's highest day's
loss from a single Bomb Group.
07/45 to
1952, Station returned to the RAF and used as an MU Satellite until sold
off.
20/10/1956
to 25/05/1957, Runways
lengthened in 1955 and
USAF 7536 Material Sqn (AMC) moved in when the unit disbanded.
