History:

11/39, 16 Sqn with Lysanders. 09/40 Became a permanent RAF Station and was the main practice area for Army Co-operation Sqns with Lysanders, Masters, Martinets then Mustangs 05/42. 1943, Airfield was rebuilt with concrete runways. Then used by RAF Transport Command Warwicks until 02/44. Post-war several fighter Sqns here temporarily, airfield on care & maintenance by 1947. 1952 to 1958, Re-opened training aircrews on Meteors, Vampires and Canberras. Retained until 1968 but no flying units. |
