History:

Work started in 1940 as a Coastal Command airfield but not completed until
the end of 1942. Opened for Fighter Command 01/01/43 but saw little use
and put on Care and Maintenance 08/43. 10/43 to
02/44, Used by various 9th USAAF Squadrons. 04/44 to 09/44,
406 Sqn Beaufighter and Mosquito night fighters from Exeter, moved to
Colerne.04/44 to ?, 286 Sqn with Defiants and Hurricanes. 05/44 to 07/44, 415 Sqn Albacores, moved to Manston. 07/44, 161 Sqn special duties Lysanders. 11/44 to 08/45, Transferred to 23 Group, Flying Training Command with Norwegian Flying School Harvards from Canada, moved to Norway. Airfield then closed for flying and sold 12/58. |
