History:
11/43 to 4/44, 377th, 378th and 379th Fighter Squadrons of ther 362nd Fighter Group, 9th USAAF with P-47 Thunderbolts, first mission flown 8/2/44, moved to Headcorn ALG.
4/44 to 7/45, 38th, 338th and 343rd Fighter Squadrons of the 55th Fighter Group moved here from Nuthampstead with P-38 Lightnings, re-equipped with P-51 Mustangs 7/44. 55th FG was the first 8th USAAF Group to fly the P-38 in combat winning two Distinguished Unit Citations. First mission flown 15/10/43, last 21/4/45, losing 181 aircraft, claiming 316 air and 268 ground kills, destroying more locomotives by strafing than any other Group, moved to Germany.
/44 to /45, 3rd Scouting Force, 862nd BS.
10/45, Post-war used by RAF Technical Training Command and Transport Command until 31/1/47. Used for civil flying in the 1950's until sold off in 1962.
