History:

 1918
to 1922, Used by RAF and US Aero Sqns until closure, buildings demolished
1923.  1940 to 08/41,
Used as a grass satellite to Duxford by
19 Sqn Spitfires.Also used by 310 (Czech), 133 (Eagle), 154, 111, 655, 411 (Canadian) and 2 Sqns until 03/43. Fowlmere airfield was then rebuilt and extended.  05/04/44
to 10/45, 503rd, 504th and 505th Fighter Squadrons of the 339th Fighter
Group with P-51 Mustangs. Flew 264 missions losing 97 Mustangs, claimed
239 enemy aircraft air to air kills and 440 on the ground.
15/10/44 to 01/46, 11 Group Fighter Command, airfield then
sold off 1957. |
